Welcome adventurer!

Bikewaze provides inspiration, advice and information on all things bike packing, cycle touring and mountain biking. We focus on routes and trails in Australia for all ability levels, from families with young children to those wanting more of a challenge!

Bike packing and cycle touring involve travelling by bike between destinations. This can mean a short ride on rail trails between towns, staying in hotels or motels, or middle of nowhere fire trail rides, steep gravel hills and remote campsites – there’s a bike route for everyone! Travelling by bike is a great activity for so many reasons. It’s environmentally friendly, a great form of exercise and also great for the mind, to name a few. Read more here about why you should go bike packing!

Exploring the world by bike lets you take things in at a different pace. It enables you to explore paths and country you would not be able to get to by car, at a speed unachievable by walking. This, combined with the buzz of riding downhill and the satisfaction on getting to the top of the next hill makes for awesome experiences!

The aim of this site is to inspire you to get out and explore on your bike by providing route suggestions and information. Some rides will be suitable for families while some are more challenging. By comparing the difficulty level and distance per day you can see if the ride is suitable for you. Some rides can be made shorter or longer and suggestions are made in the blog posts.

We have been bike riding as a family since the children were small and we have all enjoyed the adventures. Many memories made and skills learnt!

About me:

I have loved cycling as long as I can remember. My dad is a keen cyclist and we always had bikes growing up. As a child I spent long summer days on my bike exploring the county side near my home with a friend or riding around our local park.

When I left home for university I took a bike, that was essential, although I didn’t use it as much as I thought I would. None of my friends had bikes. By the end of University I had upgraded to a mountain bike and enjoyed riding the dirt paths around Cardiff.

I went travelling in my early 20’s and spent some time in Perth. I bought a bike so I could ride to the station or into the city from where I was staying in the southern suburbs.

I met my husband in France and he was a keen cyclist. He had just spent a summer in Vancouver riding mountain bike trails. With him by my side my love of bike riding was re-ignited and we spent many a weekend mountain biking in England and Wales. We also took our bikes to Scotland, where we experienced some of the amazing trails there and we rode across the isle of Mull to Iona where we stayed the night.

We lived in London for 10 years where my daily commute to work was by bike. After having children I had one, and then two, bike seats added to my bike so I could take the kids to nursery, school and activities by bike. We were a one car family then so the bike was my main form of transport.

I loved cycling the bike paths around London, along the canals and rivers, it really does give you a different perspective compared to travelling by car or public transport.

We moved to Australia about 10 years ago and settled in a suburb close to the Royal National Park where we regularly ride. We also love to travel and have had cycling adventures in every state in Australia. You can read about some of our bike adventures in the blog.
